Laurence Kushmor was born in Germany somewhere between 1770-1780 in Germany.
In the 1830 Pennsylvania census, his name was spelled Kissmoore.
In the 1840 Pennsylvania census, his name was spelled Kismore.
His wife's name is still unknown at this time.
His children were...
Lawrence Cushmore/Kushmore (1815-1888) married Margaret Gribble
Louisa Cushmore (1819-1893) married William Drinkhouse
Christopher or Christian Cushmore (1822-1873) married Anna Matilda Marks
According to the 1840 census, there should be another female child and another male child born between 1830-1835, but I have not found them yet.
The Cushmore/Kushmore family was employed in the ship building industry. The younger Lawrence was a ship fastener and Christopher was a rope maker. The family lived in the Kensington Ward of Philadelphia.
All of Laurence Kushmor's children were born in Trenton, New Jersey, therefore, he had to have been living there soon after migration from Germany. The first child was born around 1815, so we know that Laurence came over before that.
My line descends from Christopher/Christian Cushmore. At some point he changed the spelling to Kushmore, which is how my family still spells it. Various records have his given name as Christopher or Christian. Since the wife's name and children's names are always the same, I assume this is the same person.
Christopher and Anna had 6 children...
Emma Kushmore (1848-?) married George McGonigle
George Washington Kushmore (1850-1885) married Amanda Tees
William Kushmore (1852-1917) unknown if married
Kate Kushmore (1855-1907) was still single as of 1900
Harriet Kushmore (1861-1914) married George Gross
Most of the family is buried at Palmer Cemetery in Philadephia.
